What are personal demons?

Sadly, there is no official definition of personal demons. Nevertheless, my definition of this term is sources that harm our inner self. It also acts as a torment for emotion and mental health.

It is mainly attacking your mind to bring your emotions down. Personal demons include depression, loneliness, pain, self-doubt, shame, uncontrollable behavior, or something similar. These demons are the devil that beats us down and tries everything it could to repress our true personality.

Personally, I have dealt with this experience. I start to experience personal demons during the 11th grade in high school in 2014. The source was a friendship of a girl that wasn’t going well. As a result, depression, pain, and self-doubt crept into my mind. It has become a constant battle since then. Usually, personal demons happen because of a source or origin of the problem. When life becomes difficult, personal demons increase, causing a withdrawal or isolation away from family and friends.

For 5 years, I’ve struggled to fight against my demons and it has become a roller coaster. Sometimes you win, sometimes you are on the brink of losing.

Luckily, since January 2019, I have conquered my demons and able to manage them because of these solutions listed below.

Based on my personal experience and research, here are some solutions that can be helpful to you.

Exercise

Activities like walking, running, swimming, weight training, yoga, martial arts, and cycling benefits your physical health and your mental health. According to this article, studies have proven that exercise does reduce anxiety, depression, and negative mood by improving cognitive function and self-esteem.

You must get regular exercise/physical activity to see the results.

Music

There was a quote by Ludwig Van Beethoven, which stated: “Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.” For interpretation, music is therapeutic for your body and mind.

Music healing helps to decrease physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual health problems. You can get music healing by listening to music or play or sing an instrument.

There is a lot of music that can help soothe your soul and spirit. I like listening to rock and metal music because this genre of music helps me release emotions and improve my spiritual, psychological, emotional, and mental health. Here is one of the songs that are music healing to me.

Scorpions – Follow Your Heart

Writing

During the Spring 2019 semester at Montgomery College, I had two classes. One of the classes titled “Introduction to Creative Writing of Poetry” or ENGL 272. This class was one of the best decision I ever made. Writing multiple poems allow me to express my deep emotions and release them in a safe and effective way. I was able to use poetry writing as a way for me to express my struggle and success of battling my personal demons.

You can write poetry by word doc or get yourself a journal.

Communication

This is probably one of the most difficult solutions to partake. Personal demons can cause lack of communication with family and friends. Hiding your emotions can worsen your conditions.

This website is a great resource to help someone or yourself dealing with depression.

You must allow yourself to be open to conversation and be honest with yourself. Talk to your friends or family. Understand the struggle of depression. Give every support you can to avoid the risk of suicide.

The good way to prevent this is to call the national helpline at https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline, your physician, a therapist, or a counselor. Hope that this solution will increase your positive emotions and health.

Meditation

Meditation is a type of practice that may be considered as a natural way to relieve depression and negative emotions. Meditation is a practice where it focuses on a technique called mindfulness to focus on a particular mindset and achieve clear mental mind and calm emotional state.

The article from Health Harvard describes how meditation can help deal with depression. It helps to block out negative thoughts and realizing that those thoughts are not who you are. In addition, it can help your brain become prepare for a stressful situation to respond in a calmer manner.

Spiritual Practice

Religion is something that is not for everyone since most people have positive and negative opinions on religion. For myself, I am a Christian who focus on the word of God and living life in daily prayer, daily confession to God, and following the plan of the Bible. The word of God is one of a powerful weapon that you can start using to help create the fruit of the words that you speak about yourself. It is a fact that what you say about yourself, God will make it come true. Don’t believe me? Listen to the Lynyrd Skynyrd Behind the Music clip and what Ronnie Van Zant confession was before his unfortunate death. Prayer is a good way to communicate to God and cast your care to him for he will take care of it and bring you peace and joy in Christ. I recommend that you download YouVersion Bible app to help understand more about God and Jesus through different reading plans. I also recommend listening to sermons from Joel Osteen and his father John Osteen. These daily practices is what helped me get rid of depression (miracle from God).

Listen to these two sermons by both Osteen

John Osteen’s “The Power of Words”

Joel Osteen’s “Your Words Become a Reality”

Conclusion

Personal demons are what most people are going through now. Stay strong. You have the resources that can help you conquer these demons and live a positive life. Remember, there are people out there who care a lot about you and do love you. Practice the solutions every day and good things will happen to you.
